Chapter 277: Someone Behind Me

Song Qingtian asked curiously, “What’s the matter?”

“My grandfather wants to take a look at you!”

Shen Conghao pointed toward Elder Shen beside him.

He wore an expression of utter disdain for Elder Shen.

At that moment, Elder Shen was utterly stunned by Song Qingtian’s appearance.

“Truly strikingly similar—no wonder that kid said I’d mistaken someone! I wouldn’t believe it at first, but now it’s obvious I was wrong. Humph… That scoundrel Song Yingtang—how dare he deceive me? He’ll pay for this!”

Song Qingtian frowned slightly; she definitely didn’t recognize the person before her.

As for what the old man said, there was indeed something odd about it.

“Explain yourself,” Song Qingtian said, turning to Shen Conghao.

Shen Conghao smiled—a bright, dazzling grin.

“Well then, you’d better invite us in to talk,” he said, implying that they should go inside.

Unfortunately, Song Qingtian wasn’t buying it.

“If you’ve got something to say, say it right here. If not, just leave. We’re not familiar with you guys, so letting you in would be quite inconvenient!” Song Qingtian declared proudly.

Shen Conghao leaned closer and said, “Can’t you give me a little face-saving? After all, we’ve been hugging and cuddling—aren’t you embarrassed?”

“You’re not even ashamed to come knocking on my door like that, so why should I be? We helped the police solve a case—it was an unavoidable situation. And you’re bringing it up now? Are you trying to save face?”

Shen Conghao was momentarily taken aback, but instead of getting angry, he laughed. “See? Wasn’t I right? What a fiery temper!”

Elder Shen chuckled and nodded. “That temper is exactly the same.”

Song Qingtian had no idea what the grandfather and grandson were talking about, nor did she care.

The book didn’t mention this at all.

Song Qingtian couldn’t recall anything either.

“Get on with it already—if you’ve got something to say, say it quickly. My husband will be back soon, so I have to go now.”

“Your husband?”

Elder Shen’s expression darkened. “You’re already married?”

“I’m not only married—I even have a three-year-old child!”

Song Qingtian seriously suspected that this white-haired, stooped old man might not be all there.

Shen Conghao explained, “She is married, but she’s lived a life of constant mistreatment. Her husband treats her terribly. They got married out of pregnancy—she became pregnant by accident, and he was forced to marry her. After marriage, he was extremely cruel to her, and she ended up being widowed for three years.”

Song Qingtian’s face turned black. “Shen Conghao, it seems you know quite a bit. Did you come here to check my household registration? How I’m married is none of your business. Why are you poking around in my personal affairs when you’ve got nothing better to do?”

Song Qingtian wanted to leave, but Elder Shen said, “Stop right there! Where are your parents? I want to talk to them about this—how could they just stand by and let you suffer like this?”

Song Qingtian shot Elder Shen a glance. “They’re dead!”

Elder Shen froze. “Dead at such a young age? How can you talk like that, child?”

Song Qingtian ignored them and headed back to the villa.

Not long after, Shen Conghao called Song Qingtian. She answered the phone while looking out at the villa.

The grandfather and grandson were still outside.

Song Qingtian asked, “What’s going on?”

It sounded like she was accusing Shen Conghao.

Shen Conghao explained, “Years ago, the elder came here and met your grandmother—he was saved by her. After that, he never returned. For many years, his wish has been to repay her kindness. This time, he came back specifically for that reason. His real intention was to cooperate with the Song Family, with the goal of marrying you—not Song Yinyin.”

Hearing this, Song Qingtian roughly understood why Shen Conghao had teamed up with Song Yingtang.

“This has nothing to do with me. My grandmother isn’t even here anymore. You can take your grandfather back.”

Song Qingtian hung up and went back to watching TV.

Elder Shen stood at the door for a while, casting a cold glance at Shen Conghao. “You useless thing! I told you to come earlier, but you refused. If you’d come then, none of this would’ve happened—this girl wouldn’t have suffered so much.”

Elder Shen was so upset that tears streamed down his face, and he turned around to get back into his car.

After they left, Aunt Chen rushed over to tell Song Qingtian, but Song Qingtian dismissed it as unimportant.

“Let them go if they want to. It’s none of our business, so there’s no need to bother. Didn’t you say your husband would be back for dinner? Then why hasn’t he come back yet?”

“Should we call and ask?”

Aunt Chen also thought it was about time.

“Wait a little longer!”

Song Qingtian seriously suspected that Ling Hanyu might regret agreeing to give her so much—otherwise, why wouldn’t he be back by now?

Song Qingtian was almost asleep when Ling Hanyu finally returned.

Aunt Chen told Song Qingtian, and Song Qingtian got up to go to the door. She was thinking of her daughter, not Ling Hanyu—and certainly not about the gifts.

Ling Hanyu walked in, and her daughter happily shouted, “Mommy, look! A cake!”

Ling Nuonuo held two strawberry cupcakes and showed them to Song Qingtian.

Song Qingtian hurriedly picked up her daughter and kissed her.

“Did you go out to buy a cake?”

Song Qingtian knew that Ling Hanyu was always punctual; if he wasn’t, there must be a reason. Now she realized it was because he’d bought a cake for her daughter.

“Next time you’re late, call me first!”

Ling Hanyu said this while glancing behind him. Only then did Song Qingtian notice that there was someone else behind Ling Hanyu!
