Chapter 47: These Damn Books
Ling Hanyu was just about to object when he heard Song Pingzhao speak up.
“If you don’t want to leave, then stay. Although you’re married, you weren’t sold to the Ling family, so of course you can live here.”
As soon as Song Pingzhao finished speaking, a cold glint flashed in his eyes as he swept them over Ling Hanyu. “Don’t you agree, Hanyu?”
Ling Hanyu could feel Song Pingzhao putting pressure on him. Song Qingtian hadn’t expected her father to be so supportive—straight up standing up to the icy Ling Hanyu—and secretly gave him a thumbs-up in her heart.
After all, Song Pingzhao was the elder, and what he said made sense, so Ling Hanyu didn’t dare say much more. His gaze shifted to Nuonuo, and Song Qingtian immediately ran over and scooped Nuonuo into her arms.
“Nuonuo’s staying with me.”
“Mm, Nuonuo wants to be with Mommy.”
Nuonuo looked at Ling Hanyu and said earnestly. Ling Hanyu nodded, a bit disappointed, but still politely said goodbye to Song Pingzhao.
Ling Hanyu turned and walked away, with only Song Yinyin getting up to see him off.
Song Yinyin followed behind Ling Hanyu, her excitement almost overwhelming. She had to work hard to keep herself from showing how thrilled she was, but the corners of her mouth kept twitching upward anyway.
Song Pingzhao watched Song Qingtian calmly bowing her head to feed Nuonuo, then glanced at Song Yinyin, who was walking closer and closer to Ling Hanyu, and his expression grew darker and darker.
Suddenly, he glared angrily at Deng Siyu. “Is this the kind of daughter you’ve raised? Openly eyeing your own jiefu?”
Although Song Pingzhao managed to keep his voice down, Ling Hanyu and Song Yinyin still heard him.
Ling Hanyu suddenly stopped in his tracks, and Song Yinyin crashed right into him. He took two steps forward to avoid her, but Song Yinyin hadn’t expected him to do that—she lost her balance and nearly fell to the ground.
It took several wobbles before she finally steadied herself. She was furious inside, but couldn’t show it; instead, she kept looking at Ling Hanyu with soft, gentle eyes.
“Jiefu, are you upset? Sister…?”
Song Yinyin tried to pull out her usual trick, but when Ling Hanyu heard her opening line—so identical to every other time she’d used it—he immediately frowned.
“In the future, there’s no need to bring this up with me. Just go to the company tomorrow to handle your resignation.”
“Jiefu! What do you mean?”
Song Yinyin let out a sharp cry. She’d already sensed that Ling Hanyu’s attitude toward her was growing colder and colder, but she never imagined he’d actually humiliate her in front of her whole family this time.
“That’s exactly what it means.”
Ling Hanyu said coldly, then turned around and walked away.
Seeing the two of them had reached this point, Song Qingtian felt so frustrated she wanted to flip the table. She really couldn’t believe Ling Hanyu anymore—why had he strayed so far from the character the author originally set for him? Was he planning to remain single purely on his own merits?
She still remembered what the book said: the male lead’s one and only true love was Song Yinyin. For her, even after years of marriage, Song Qingtian had never existed in his eyes—and after Song Qingtian became a vegetative state, he even divorced her outright, going on to live a shamelessly happy life with Song Yinyin ever since.
Song Qingtian thought she should come up with another plan. She couldn’t keep pinning all her hopes on Song Yinyin. Maybe it was because she’d crossed over into this world, disrupting the magnetic field between Ling Hanyu and Song Yinyin, which was why Ling Hanyu had grown indifferent toward Song Yinyin.
She decided she’d have to think this through carefully. If nothing worked, she might as well just keep living at the Song Family’s place. After all, if they lived apart for a long time, they could simply get a divorce.
Song Pingzhao, on the other hand, was overjoyed. It had been many years since he’d eaten a meal with his daughter, let alone with Ling Nuonuo this time.
