Chapter 104: Counterattack 30
That night, Ming Yue walked for a long time, from the restaurant where she had dinner all the way to Jiang Feng’s house.
By the time she reached the end, Ming Yue was completely exhausted and yet still refused to get in a car. She threw a tantrum like a little kid right there on the street, plopping down on the ground with a thud. “I’m not walking anymore—I can’t go on!”
“How about a ride then?”
Jiang Feng crouched down and asked, gently brushing aside her tousled hair. Far from being angry, he was remarkably patient—almost endearing, in fact.
After all, he’d seen every side of Ming Yue: fierce, mad, cold...
But this was the first time he’d ever seen her like this—both delighted and surprised, with an uncontainable glimmer of joy tugging at the corners of his mouth.
Ming Yue pouted, refusing to budge. “I don’t want a ride; I just want to keep walking.”
“Alright, then let’s walk. How about we take a short rest first? We’ll keep going once we’re refreshed, okay?”
Jiang Feng slowly sat down beside her, stretching out his long arm to gently nudge her head onto his shoulder.
Ming Yue didn’t resist; she really did rest her head on his shoulder, shaking her head and saying, “No, I really can’t go on. Look—there are blisters on the soles of my feet!”
She lifted one foot and casually wiggled it.
Then she tried to pull it back.
But before she could, Jiang Feng had already grabbed her ankle.
Ming Yue gasped, struggling to free herself. “Hey, what are you doing? We’re in the middle of the street!”
In truth, she knew exactly what he was up to. She didn’t even know how she knew—it just felt… somehow obvious.
Sure enough, no sooner had she spoken than she heard the unnamed male operative whisper in her ear, “It’s fine. I just want to take a look at your feet—see how bad the blisters are.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Jiang Feng had already seized her ankle, propped her foot up on his knee, expertly slipped off her shoes and socks, and examined the soles of her feet.
Sure enough, there were two blisters.
“Does it hurt?”
Jiang Feng touched the blister very gently.
Ming Yue wasn’t actually in pain.
Even if she were, after all these years of experience and self-restraint, it wouldn’t be a big deal—and she certainly wouldn’t admit to feeling any pain in front of others.
Yet at that moment, for some inexplicable reason, she pretended to wince, let out a little hiss, quickly pulled her foot back, and pouted as she nodded. “Ouch! It really hurts!”
“If it hurts, then stop walking. I’ll carry you.”
“Really?”
“Really. I’m not lying—you’d be a dog if I were!”
Jiang Feng smiled, knowing full well that as someone who’d known her for so long, he could see right through her little act. But instead of exposing her, he played along, letting her keep up the charade.
Strangely enough, he even found himself getting caught up in it—almost addicted to it.
A warm feeling even welled up inside him.
Gently, he helped Ming Yue slip her shoes and socks back on, one by one. When he was done, he held out a finger and suggested they make a pinky promise, saying, “If I lie to you, I’ll be a dog.”
“Okay, if you lie to me, you’ll be a dog.”
Ming Yue hooked her pinky around his, completing their little “signing ceremony” just like children playing house—except that after the ritual, she didn’t let go.
Jiang Feng was taken aback. He looked down at her and said, “Ming Yue?”
“Jiang Feng, you’re so obedient tonight,” Ming Yue suddenly blurted out, tilting her head up to meet his gaze.
Jiang Feng froze, his brow furrowing in disbelief—and also a bit puzzled. “Obedient?”
“Yeah. Just obedient.”
“Uh…” He drew out the word, utterly at a loss as to how to sum up this ‘obedience’ in a single phrase.
