Chapter 64: The Woman
“You’re saying it’s him? Why on earth should I believe you?” Ming Yue gripped the unnamed male operative’s hand tightly, her icy eyes glaring coldly at the man who was holding a chick in his arms as if it were a piece of poultry.
The man quickly nodded. “I wouldn’t dare lie to you. It really is Liu Fan—he hired us to kidnap you, promising us a hefty sum once the job was done. If you don’t believe me, I’ve got the recording!”
“Recording?”
“Yes!”
“Play it for me.”
“Of course.”
The man bowed and nodded again, then with some difficulty shifted his arm, slowly pulled out his phone, and found the recording.
It was indeed Liu Fan’s voice.
He spoke briefly and concisely, just a few sentences in total: wait until she leaves the Gu Family Estate, then kidnap her, take her to an old, dilapidated factory called Hengxin, and trade her for money.
Ming Yue snatched the man’s phone from his hand, glanced at it for a moment, then disdainfully tossed it carelessly to the ground before letting go of the man.
The man lost his balance and toppled over with a loud thud.
Ming Yue didn’t even glance at him, loosened her muscles, and was about to walk away—when she noticed that another man lying on the ground had secretly cracked open a tiny slit in his right eye.
Ming Yue was furious just looking at him.
Especially since that bastard had beaten Fu Qiancheng to the ground with a single blow.
In a fit of anger, she kicked him hard, sending him rolling around and begging for mercy.
Ming Yue merely let out a cold snort. “I said it already—begging won’t do any good. From now on, you’d better pray to heaven that the guy you knocked unconscious is okay. Otherwise…”
She paid no attention whatsoever to the man beside her, nor to his identity, nor to the expression on his face when he heard her words.
Seeing how utterly repulsive the man was, she raised her foot again and kicked him hard once more.
Tears instantly streamed down the man’s face.
He wanted to curse but didn’t dare; he thought about fighting back but knew he stood no chance at all.
All he could do was moan silently in his heart.
Ming Yue didn’t even glance at him, turning instead to leave—but just as she did, her gaze met another pair of eyes studying her: Feng Hao, who had somehow appeared by their side.
Feng Hao hadn’t gotten out of the car, nor had he sounded the horn. Instead, he drove slowly up to where Ming Yue and Jiang Feng were standing, resting one hand on the steering wheel while leaning half his body out the window.
He looked first at Ming Yue, then at Jiang Feng, and finally scanned the two men on the ground before suddenly breaking into a grin and giving Ming Yue a thumbs-up.
“Amazing! Amazing! Xiao Yueyue, I never imagined a girl could be like this—and I certainly never expected the once soft and delicate little Yueyue to turn out like this! Now I truly admire you more than ever!”
Ming Yue rolled her eyes and shot straight back, “Cut the small talk. Tell me—why are you here?”
“Coming back from the Gu Family Estate to the Feng Family Old Residence—this is the shortest route,” Jiang Feng explained, stepping automatically to Ming Yue’s side.
Ming Yue didn’t notice this at all, continuing to stare at Feng Hao and pressing straight ahead with her question: “So you were bound to pass by here, then?”
Feng Hao couldn’t help but glance at her twice more before turning to her and nodding calmly. “Unless something unexpected happens, that’s pretty much the case.”
Hearing this, Ming Yue slightly furrowed her brow.
Feng Hao squinted and smiled. “Anything else you’d like to ask? If not, it’s getting late—would you like a ride home?”
“No, thanks.”
