Chapter 66: Love Yourself First

Chapter 66: Love Yourself First

Ming Yue didn’t go straight home. After handling a few matters at the police station, she headed to the hospital where Fu Qiancheng was being treated.

She didn’t push open the door to the ward; instead, she stood quietly in a secluded corner until Fu Qiancheng’s parents had left the hospital, only then stepping into his room.

Jiang Feng remained silent, following behind.

The Gu brothers didn’t leave either.

Meanwhile, Fu Qiancheng, who had been knocked unconscious, had already regained consciousness and was lying in bed.

As soon as he saw Ming Yue, it was as if he’d taken a miraculous elixir—just moments ago he’d looked as wilted as an eggplant drenched in autumn frost, but now he was full of energy again.

He smiled warmly at Ming Yue: “You’re here? Are you all right? Did you get hurt? Have you seen a doctor yet? Come over here, let me take a look.”

He was so preoccupied with caring for Ming Yue that he couldn’t notice anything else—not even Jiang Feng’s expression or the subtle changes in Gu Yanxing’s demeanor.

It was only Gu Yanyun standing nearby who seemed to have caught on to something.

Just as he was about to speak, Gu Yanxing beat him to it, issuing a command to his younger brother: “Yanyun, go—go buy some daily necessities for Brother Qiancheng.”

With that, he tossed the car keys to Gu Yanyun.

Gu Yanyun was just about to say, “Why don’t you go yourself?” when he caught his older brother’s meaningful glance, clearly signaling that Gu Yanxing wanted him to leave.

Gu Yanyun glanced at Ming Yue, who was standing there silently, and seemed to understand his brother’s intention. He pouted slightly, muttered a low “Oh,” and obediently picked up the keys before heading out.

Then Gu Yanxing patted Jiang Feng on the shoulder: “Qiancheng is fine—his injuries aren’t too serious—but he’s really weak and needs to stay in the hospital to rest and recover.”

“That’s good,” Jiang Feng replied with a faint smile.

Gu Yanxing nodded and placed a hand on Jiang Feng’s shoulder: “Let’s go for a walk outside. It’ll give them some privacy, too.”

Gu Yanxing pointed toward Ming Yue, who was keeping quiet, and Fu Qiancheng, whose face was alight with excitement, but his attention was fixed on Jiang Feng.

Jiang Feng still wore his trademark smile and nodded in agreement: “Sure.”

No sooner had he finished speaking than he turned around and stepped out of the room first.

Gu Yanxing and Ming Yue exchanged nods—a polite farewell—and then quickly followed Jiang Feng out, carefully closing the door behind them.

For a moment, only Fu Qiancheng and Ming Yue were left in the room.

“Yueyue…”

Seeing that Ming Yue still wasn’t saying a word and was covered in dirt and bloodstains, Fu Qiancheng’s smile faded considerably. He began shifting his body, as if he were about to pull back the blanket and get out of bed.

Ming Yue frowned slightly and moved to the edge of the bed ahead of him, pressing down on the stubborn man: “Don’t move—just lie still and heal.”

“Okay,” the man said obediently, nodding.

“I’m fine—I’m not hurt.”

“That’s good.”

Fu Qiancheng breathed a sigh of relief, grabbed Ming Yue’s little hand, raised his other hand to smooth her loose hair, and then pulled out a wet wipe to gently wipe away the dust and blood from her face.

It all felt like yesterday.

A misty haze slowly gathered in Ming Yue’s eyes.

But she quickly forced it back.

Taking a deep breath, she swallowed all her emotions and put on her usual aloof expression. She withdrew her hand from Fu Qiancheng’s warm grasp and even pushed away his hand as he tried to wipe the dust and blood from her face.

“Yueyue!”

Fu Qiancheng’s hand froze mid-air.

Ming Yue showed no sign of retracting her hand either: “Fu Qiancheng, thank you for today, but please don’t do such foolish things again.”

“This isn’t foolishness.”

“What else could it be?”

“Yueyue!”

“Fu Qiancheng, remember this: each person has only one life, and it’s incredibly precious. There’s no need to sacrifice yourself for someone else, let alone give up everything for them. Besides, you’ve already lost half your life!”
