Chapter 67: The Adulterer
“I don’t know.”
Jiang Feng shook his head quickly, denying it outright.
Gu Yanxing smiled faintly, refusing to miss even the slightest expression on Jiang Feng’s face, then immediately followed up with, “Qiancheng originally came to me asking for help in investigating this.”
“Oh? So did you find anything?”
Jiang Feng pressed further, feigning genuine curiosity.
Gu Yanxing shook his head and continued to scrutinize Jiang Feng’s expression. “If I really wanted to investigate, I’d definitely be able to. It’s just… I never agreed to do it.”
“Why is that?”
“First, I believe Qiancheng needs to overcome that hurdle on his own. Second, if I actually went through with it, it would be disrespectful to Ming Yue—and also to Brother Kai.”
“So what exactly are you trying to ask me? Are you asking whether I can help you investigate? Or are you wondering if I’m the very ‘unnamed male operative’ Ming Yue mentioned—the adulterer?”
Jiang Feng turned the tables, taking the initiative to press his question, then narrowed his eyes and smiled, quietly waiting for Gu Yanxing’s reply.
Gu Yanxing also wore a smile as he fixed his gaze on Jiang Feng. “So, are you?”
“What do you mean?”
“What did you yourself say?”
“The adulterer?”
Gu Yanxing gave a faint smile but didn’t respond directly, instead waiting expectantly for Jiang Feng to continue.
Jiang Feng stood by the window, gazing out at the myriad lights of the city. Involuntarily, Ming Yue’s little face flashed through his mind. Rather than answering Gu Yanxing’s question straight away, he asked, “Did Fu Qiancheng send you to ask me this?”
“Of course not.”
“So you’re asking on your own?”
“You could say that.”
“Oh, really?” Jiang Feng still had a sly smile on his face. “What if I say yes? What would you do then? And what if I say no? How would you handle that?”
Gu Yanxing remained silent.
Jiang Feng shrugged. “Then what’s the point of asking? If you have any suspicions, go ahead and investigate them yourself. And if Qiancheng wants to know something, let him come ask me directly.”
With those words, Jiang Feng stopped engaging with Gu Yanxing, turned around, and headed straight for the Hospital Ward.
No one knows what he discussed with Fu Qiancheng inside the ward.
All Gu Yanxing saw was that after Jiang Feng spent a brief moment in the ward, he opened the door and walked out.
On his handsome face, that signature smile remained unchanged—no hint of anything unusual. After exchanging a nod with Gu Yanxing, he strode off toward the exit, leaving the hospital.
As Gu Yanxing watched Jiang Feng’s figure recede into the distance, the smile on his face gradually faded.
Ming Yue took a taxi back to Qingyue Fu.
But not long after she got in, the car began zigzagging all over the place, completely veering off course.
Ming Yue became alert and reached for her seatbelt, smiling as she asked the driver, “Sir, have you taken a wrong turn? This isn’t the way to Qingyue Fu, and my phone is showing that we’ve gone off course too.”
“No, we haven’t.”
The driver didn’t say another word, simply replying like that before resuming driving in silence.
Realizing things were getting serious, Ming Yue unbuckled her seatbelt, ready to confront the driver and even jump out of the car—when suddenly she spotted a pious-looking man standing by the roadside not far away.
Jiang Feng!
Looking at the driver behind the wheel, all her tension instantly melted away. She buckled her seatbelt again, waiting for the driver to pick up the man, unable to suppress a curse: “Are you crazy?”
